Stabbing Reported at Portage Collegiate in Portage la Prairie
A student was taken to hospital after an assault was reported at Portage Collegiate in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Monday morning.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, officers received a report of an assault at the school at approximately 10:05 a.m. on September 21, 2026.
Student Hospitalized in Stable Condition
A student was transported to hospital following the incident. The student was reported to be in stable condition.
RCMP officers responded to the school as authorities worked to secure the area and investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported assault.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Police confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody following the incident.
As a precaution, Portage Collegiate and nearby daycares were placed under lockdown while officers dealt with the situation.
The lockdown was implemented out of an abundance of caution as authorities worked to ensure the safety of students, staff and children in nearby facilities.
Investigation Underway
RCMP have not released additional details about what led to the assault or the nature of the injuries.
